All eyes on Waraba as future city starts to take shape

24 October 24

While Lilywood Landings is setting the pace for the creation of Waraba, the future city is also attracting huge interest from government and infrastructure providers paving the way for growth.

Waraba has officially been declared a Priority Development Area (PDA) by the Queensland Government, which will help to unlock land for more than 30,000 new homes.

PDAs are powerful instruments that ensure planning in priority regions is commercially feasible and sustainably managed while balancing economic, social and environmental considerations.

The Waraba PDA also comes with around $100 million of State Government funding to support much-needed affordable housing and $38.5 million for initial water and wastewater infrastructure for the first suburb of Lilywood.

The major wastewater works, including a wastewater pumping station, are being delivered by the Moreton region water utilities provider in partnership with developers, including Lilywood Landings developer Lennium Group.

These works will not only support Lilywood but underpin the ultimate water and wastewater network for the city that will eventually be home to around 70,000 people.

Other recent announcements for Waraba have included $71 million towards the upgrade of Caboolture River Road between Grant Road and Morayfield Road, transforming this stretch into a four-lane carriageway with new cycling and pedestrian paths.

Lennium Group is also undertaking upgrade works to Caboolture River Road, which provides the primary access route to our Lilywood Landings community.

Development Manager Ian Worthington welcomed the State Government decision to declare Waraba Queensland’s 36th PDA.

“The intention to declare Waraba a PDA is a positive step towards enabling increased land supply under a process that commenced back in 2016,” he said.

“While the approvals process to date has been managed by Moreton Bay Regional Council, a PDA should ensure there is a coordinated approach to future planning for all of Waraba.

“We welcome this move to give Waraba’s contribution to land supply the recognition it deserves while providing certainty and confidence for future investors and home buyers.”
