With an expected future population of around 70,000 people, there will be no shortage of players signing up to the newly formed Waraba Sports Club over the coming year.

Planned from the outset as a multi-sport club, the fledgling group already has an established cricket club and a specialised baseball coaching arm, with a strategy to add baseball and AFL to its sporting roster over the next 12 months.

Lilywood Landings is proud to announce a new community partnership with Waraba Sports Club to help the club grow and ensure sport is accessible for everyone who wants to play.

Club Director Jeremy Donahoo says every dollar contributed by sponsors such as Lilywood Landings enables Waraba Sports Club members to enjoy their favourite sport and stay active.

“We are very grateful for this support, which will make playing sport more affordable for everyone in the community and assist with our expansion plans,” he said.

“Our club currently consists of cricket and baseball coaching but we plan to add many more sports over the next few years as more people move to the area. This will include a baseball club later this year, AFL in 2025 and junior leagues across multiple sports.

“This year we have a permanent home field in Morayfield for cricket matches but expect to eventually be based in Waraba as the city develops and suitable playing fields are built.”

Waraba Sports Club will be officially launched with a celebration event on April 20 that also marks the start of the 2024 cricket season. The event will be held from 12pm onwards at Lindsay Road Sports Complex in Morayfield and includes displays, games for kids, face painting, live music, food and drinks.

“This will be a great opportunity for people to find out more about our club while enjoying an afternoon of fun with their family and even watching a bit of cricket,” said Jeremy.
