A new state school is being planned for Caboolture West, with construction set to begin in 2023 and completion expected in time for Term 1, 2025. The new school will increase capacity in the local school network and provide enrolment relief to surrounding schools.

The school is part of a wider program aimed at building new schools across the state to meet the needs of a growing student population.

The new West Caboolture primary school will be built in two stages and will ultimately accommodate more than a thousand students in Prep to Year 6. The school is one of five new schools to be built as part of the 2022-23 Queensland Budget, which includes a total of $390 million in funding for school infrastructure.

Education Minister Grace Grace said the new schools were part of the $3 billion Building Future Schools program, which was designed to deliver schools for Queensland’s fastest-growing areas. Since 2015, the government has opened 21 new schools, with 11 more planned for 2023 and 2024.

The new school in Caboolture West will help ease enrolment pressure on nearby schools and is part of a broader effort to ensure that infrastructure needs are met across the state. The Department of Education actively monitors schools experiencing enrolment growth and works with school communities to ensure that future growth needs are planned for.

In addition to the new schools, the 2022-23 budget includes funding of almost $220 million over two years for the construction of additional classrooms at existing schools that are experiencing in-catchment enrolment growth. The government will also spend $650 million over the next five years on upgrade projects at existing schools across Queensland.

These upgrades include major renewal projects at 36 schools, six special schools, 18 discrete communities, playground and tuckshop upgrades, and planning and design of 18 new school halls and performing arts centres.

The Caboolture West primary school is currently in its planning phase, with the site and individual budget yet to be determined. The Department of Education will be actively involved in this process, considering factors such as the capacity of the existing school network, the ability to expand existing schools, growth in the local student population, and land availability.

The contract for the design of the new Caboolture West primary school is projected to be granted in 2023.
